LLMs are Cancer, Big Data Centers are Tumors

Cancer is a disease of the body's information system. The genetic and meta-genetic and operate, but in a way that is lethal to the overall organism.

The visible effect of the disease of the information system is the presence of tumors whose unbounded growth eventually cause critical bodily systems to fail and the organism ceases to function a living thing.

Knowledge creation and intelligent information processing work nothing like LLMs. LLMs are correlation machines. Immense and powerful, but at the end of the day, they cannot distinguish the cause of the sun rising from the fact that a lot of people take a shit around that time of the day.

LLMs have captured the imagination of many people and hundreds of billions of dollars of capital that could otherwise be spent on things that do conform to knowledge creation and intelligent processing of information.

The manifestation of this disease of human societies are the immense, costly, and resource intensive data centers and attendant machinery, that like tumors, divert energy and resources from the normal functioning of a healthy organism.

Cancer has many varied causes, but left unchecked, the result is always the same.
